The TGA framework

Therapeutic goods in Australia are regulated under the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989. Goods used for therapeutic purposes generally need to be entered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) before they can be supplied.

Unapproved therapeutic goods can sometimes be accessed through the Special Access Scheme, Authorised Prescriber pathway, or clinical trials — these are prescriber-driven processes.

Schedules of the Poisons Standard

The Poisons Standard schedules many substances. Some peptides fall within scheduled categories (for example, GH and GH-related substances). These have access restrictions even within prescription channels.

Research compounds

Compounds labelled for research use are not authorised for human consumption. Sale or supply for human use is generally not lawful.
