Peptide Prescriber Pathways in Australia

How qualified prescribers access and prescribe approved and restricted peptides in Australia.

Last updated: 2 April 2026

Registered medical practitioners

In Australia, registered doctors can prescribe approved peptides within their approved indications. For scheduled peptides (e.g. GH), prescribers must follow Poisons Standard requirements.

Registration and qualifications determine which peptides a practitioner can legally prescribe.

Authorised Prescriber pathway

Some substances can only be prescribed by doctors who have been granted Authorised Prescriber status by the TGA for a specific peptide. This provides additional oversight.

Authorised Prescriber status requires evidence of appropriate training and protocols.

Access schemes and pathways

Standard Registration: approved peptides. Special Access Scheme: unapproved peptides for serious conditions. Authorised Prescriber pathway: restricted peptides with TGA oversight. Clinical Trials: investigational peptides in structured trials.

Each pathway has different requirements and oversight.

Monitoring and safety

Prescribers using peptides have a duty to monitor patients for adverse events and report serious events. Documentation of clinical justification is required. Regular review of efficacy and safety is standard.

Frequently asked questions
